One person · two disciplines

Omar Abuelhana

Egyptian oud player and contemporary composer, based in Zwolle, the Netherlands.

Omar Abu El-Hana is an Egyptian oud player, contemporary composer, and music educator based in the Netherlands. His artistic identity is defined by the rare convergence of two highly demanding disciplines: the virtuosity and expressive depth of Arabic oud performance, and the conceptual and experimental language of contemporary classical composition.

He trained within the Arabic musical heritage at the Higher Institute of Arabic Music and the Arabic Oud House, studied contemporary composition at the Cairo Conservatory, and continues at ArtEZ Conservatory in Zwolle. He is co-founder of Sirico, a duo shaping a new form of Egyptian chamber music.
